A Simple Planter Box
A super quick guide on how to build one...
Here is a plan for how to build a super simple planter box. I wont provide too much explanation because it's pretty simple. You can very easily see from the drawing how to fit the pieces together. You can also see the 3d model in Onshape, you can see the exact dimensions of the parts here. However here is a list of the parts required.
- 6 X 3/4 inch thickness boards that are 6"x3.5' for the short ends of the box
- 12 X 3/4 inch thickness boards that are 6"x4.5' for the long ends of the box
- 6X posts that are 4"x4"x18" for the supports
- 72 wood screws that are ~1.5 inch in length. I use 2 screws per board at the points where the board overlaps the support.
You can use any kind of wood really. I would recommend either cedar or redwood or some other water resistant kind of wood. I have read that these kinds can last 15+ years in wet environments such as the Pacific Northwest. I want this material because I don't want to use an chemical coatings on the wood because it could leach into the soil. But I have seen people use plywood and pressurized boards too which can also work if you're not concerned with the materials used to create these materials getting into the soil. You can also obviously use this design and make an even bigger box or smaller as is required by your project.
